DVA Meeting - 2 June 2010

What a great evening we had with The Waterfront Studio's as our hosts.  Thanks again Richard for organising the venue and also the cool Cappucino's and Cafe Late's.   We had some lovely snacks and members networked till just before seven when the actual meeting kicked off.

First up we had Carl from Aces Media who entertained us with their very first music video shot on a shoe string budget.  This video is still playing on the Multichoice channel "MK". Camerawork and editing was of a high standard.  The video was shot with a Sony Z-7 and edited on Premiere Pro.  A dolly and track was also used.  Aces media are well known for their website designs.  Members were also invited to join their newest venture in the wedding market:  www.weddingdiary.co.za

Next up was Meagon from KPG Technologies.  We watched a live video streamed clip of the internet by the renouned filmaker Philip Bloom.  He was talking about the JVC HM 100.  Philip is well known for his unbiased reviews on various equipment in the industry.  We even had a feel of the real thing while the camera was passed around to members.  See "Market Place" for this month's KPG special offers to DVA members only.

As Richard was introducing our next speaker, Mike from Labspace, he dropped the bombshell that the current market is rapidly changing.  The camera that is causing all the furore is the Canon 5D SLR digital.  Members were in shock after hearing all the current stories of the 5D and how it is changing perceptions.  Mike gave great insight of the industry and of coarse Premiere Pro CS5.  What an amazing product this is! Some of the new features were mind boggling.  We even had some CS5/FCP comparisons.  A big thanks to Mike Brennan for a well informed presentation.
